The combined skill sets equip participants with the knowledge and practical skills required to manage and implement traffic control in Temporary Traffic Management Category 1 environments, including Urban Streets and Low Volume Rural Roads, as outlined in the Austroads Guide to Temporary Traffic Management.

Course Details

The Traffic Management course offered by One Stop Training Solutions provides participants with
the practical skills and theoretical knowledge required to safely manage and control traffic in various work environments.
This training is designed for individuals involved in road construction, maintenance, and event management where temporary traffic control is required.

The course is delivered over 3 days, followed by additional post-training requirements.
After completing the classroom component, students must complete 20 hours of work placement,
two workplace-based observations, and a Final Assessment. These activities ensure that participants gain hands-on
experience in real workplace conditions.

 

Course Content

  • Prepare to control traffic on high-volume roads.
  • Control traffic and operate communication devices.
  • Control traffic at traffic signals where signals have been turned off.
  • Ensure WHS (Work Health and Safety) requirements are adhered to by all personnel.
  • Implement work procedures to control traffic and road users when signals are switched off and back on.
  • Communicate regularly with clients, personnel, and other relevant parties.
  • Prepare to implement a traffic management plan.
  • Set out and monitor the traffic guidance scheme.
  • Monitor and coordinate the work program.
  • Diagnose and resolve routine problems.
  • Close down work activities and maintain operating records.

 

Course Outcome

Upon successful completion of all course components, students will receive:

  • Statement of Attainment issued by ATC for each skill set.
  • Temporary Traffic Management (TTM) card issued by One Stop Training Solutions valid for 2 months while awaiting the physical card.
  • Physical TTM card issued by the Department for Infrastructure and Transport (DIT).

 

  • Be 18 years of age or older.
  • Have Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) skills at ACSF Level 2 or above.
  • Must hold the unit 'CPCWHS1001 Prepare to Work Safely in the Construction Industry' or its equivalent unit.
    (Accepted Course Codes and Names: CPCWHS1001 Prepare to Work Safely in the Construction Industry OR
    CPCCOHS1001A Work Safely in the Construction Industry).
    A physical white card alone cannot be accepted as evidence; a Statement of Attainment (SOA) with the required
    unit of competency is mandatory.
  • Bring your own PPE (including steel-capped boots, a broad-brimmed hat, eye protection, gloves,
    long pants, and a high-visibility shirt/vest/jacket).

All students are required to complete a minimum of 20 logged hours of vocational placement for Traffic Controller (TC).
This involves performing 20 hours of stop/slow bat operations or using a Portable Traffic Control Device (PTCD)
on a live road with a licensed traffic control company. In addition, students must complete three (3) different set-ups
based on Traffic Management Plans (TMPs) and Traffic Guidance Schemes (TGS) relevant to their working conditions
for Traffic Management Implementers (TMI) after completing the course.
All placements must be supervised and are unpaid.

TC1 and TMI1 post-course requirements must be completed within six (6) months of the final day of the formal course.
Post-course TMI set-ups may take between 1 and 2 hours each to complete.

NOTE: During work placement, learners are required to provide their own PPE,
including a two-way handheld radio.

NOTE: Once the vocational placement is completed, TC and TMI assessments must be
conducted by a qualified trainer/assessor to obtain the Statement of Attainment.
Assessment sessions are available monthly and can be booked by contacting the office.
